Become part of the Bawds team, from production to the stage
Acting
Bawds is always keen to hear from people who would like to be considered for a part in one of our productions.
Whether you are an experienced or professional performer or would like to take your first steps on stage, we welcome expressions of interest from anyone who would like to act with us. We’re always interested to hear from people with a passion for good drama and a willingness to work as part of a company. Please keep an eye out for upcoming productions and opportunities to get involved.
As a production company, our policy is to hold open auditions for all our main stage and studio productions. This allows us to encourage as wide a pool of talent as possible to come forward. We aim to be as inclusive as possible, and our productions offer a range of acting roles, and depending on the production, occasionally roles for singers.
Whether you have years of experience or have never performed with us before, please do get in touch and let us know that you are interested. We would be delighted to hear from you. Our productions range from full-scale shows at the ADC Theatre to smaller scale works at the Corpus Playroom and other community venues.
Production
There are many ways to get involved beyond performing or directing, for example taking the first steps in working behind the scenes. Why not join our production team?
We’re eager to hear from people who would be interested in being part of the production process or contributing in other non-acting ways. Our productions are made possible by people working together as a team in a wide range of roles, and there are plenty of opportunities to get involved whether you are an experienced theatre practitioner or just starting out on your theatrical journey.
We welcome anyone with experience in stage management and backstage work, as well as those interested in set, props, costume, lighting, sound, hair and makeup, production management or front of house. We’re equally happy to hear from people who have an idea, a particular skill they would like to contribute, or simply a desire to learn something new.
If you would like to become involved in a production, please do get in touch and tell us a little about your interests and experience. We’re always happy to hear from people who would like to contribute to making good drama happen.
Directing
We’re always happy to receive submissions from experienced directors or those who would like to take their first steps in directing. Please do get in touch to share your ideas.
You may be interested in directing a main-house production at the ADC Theatre; a play on a smaller scale at the Corpus Playroom; or have an idea for a show at another venue entirely. We aim to set our programme at least a year in advance.
Brand new to directing? Bawds’ Committee members have plenty of experience you can call on. Those interested in directing for the first time may find it useful to ‘shadow’ a director to see how they work, and then initially direct a small-scale show at the Corpus Playroom or other venue. Help will be available for all directors throughout the process from budgeting to organising auditions, booking rehearsal space and providing full production support.
