Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead

27 September

– 1 October 2022

Tom Stoppard

The play at its centre is a humorous and satirical take on whether ‘to be or not to be’ is actually the question, and indeed how you even know when you are not…

Listed by The New York Times as one of the top twenty plays ever written, ‘two of the minor characters from Hamlet’ (as Tom Stoppard calls them) take centre stage as their fates are revealed. Hamlet, the King and Queen and Ophelia are here the sub-plot, with the main action ‘off-stage’ as Rosencrantz and Guildenstern grapple with a world they no longer understand.

Reviews

The play manages to be hilarious and deeply moving, posing questions about life and death, playing with words and pulling at the heartstrings. Is it to be the greatest British play of the last half century?…Ah that is the question!
