Samuel Pickwick, founder and president of the Pickwick Club, bored with the club's usual sporting activities, suggests that he and his fellow ‘Pickwickians’ should travel around the South East of England countryside and compose reports of what they see and experience.
Accompanied by his fellow club members, the optimistically romantic Tracy Tupman, the hapless sportsman Nathaniel Winkle and the aspiring poet Augustus Snodgrass, the quartet stumble through a catalogue of disasters involving confidence tricksters, crooked politicians and corrupt lawyers, blundering from one comic set piece to another in a new dramatisation of the novel that established Charles Dickens as one of our greatest comic writers.
